Looking for ideas on how to avoid night attacks in my toes. I wear thick socks (sometimes 2 pairs or slipper socks) these are not enough. I have trouble sleeping if house is too warm so heat is about 62 at night. I have an electric blanket but do not want to use it on a nightly basis because of the long term risks. Even when I do not have an attack cold toes or numb toes wake me up. I tried the grabbers warmers but these only last a few hours then I wake up when my toes get cold again. I am tired form all the frequent waking. I am on nifedipine extended release which helps during the day. When I wake my toes are cold and feel like the blood has drained out of them. hanging my legs or the side of bed or standing up helps a little as does rewarming. Thanks for the help.

The same thing happens to me. Not every night but enough that it becomes disruptive to my sleep. I'm warm enough under the blankets but my feet remain two blocks of ice. It's crazy. Going back to the doctors next month - hopefully to get some medication.
In the morning I find that even with socks on it's not enough. I have to wear thick slippers or my toes will turn white as soon as they touch the floor. |

Is it possible to change the orientation of your bed so that the foot of the bed is close to whatever heat source you have in the room?

Your condition sounds worse than mine, but I'll relay what I do: first, take a hot shower just before bed and make sure to keep feet hot before going to bed. I'm so used to having cold feet, that sometimes I don't realize they are cold until I get into bed and can't go to sleep.
Second, blow a hairdryer on high heat directly under covers down toward the foot area to warm sheets quickly. (Nothing like a cold sheet to bring on Raynaud's) Third, it sounds like your room temp. is too cold. I keep my thermostat on 66 at night, and my room temp is usually around 68. I use multiple cotton sheets and blankets to keep warm. Note that synthetics and down will cause sweating. Don't just focus on your feet. Also keep your core warm. I would freeze to death at 60 degrees. Good luck! |
