Hello.
I am new here and am wondering if someone could help me figure out what is going on with my nose. For the past month or so, my nose has been turning red from time to time. I am noticing it more now that the weather is getting cooler. If I go outside for a walk in the cool evening, my nose will turn red and very warm when I get inside in the warmer temperature. The cooler the weather outside, the more flushed my nose gets. But... when I am in a controlled environment- my nose is freezing to the touch. My hands and feet also get very cold and sometimes the only way to warming them up is by a warm bath or running hands under warm water. My hands/feet/nose do not look blue or very white from being cold, but they definitely are hard to warm up. I have never been diagnosed with Raynaud's but I do have fibromyalgia. I am confused... I also have bad allergies and just recently went to the doctor for a very stuffy and painful nose. My doctor said that my turbinates in my nose are swollen (probably from allergies) and explained that my nose will flush when I come in from the outside due to vasomotor rhinitis from the change of temperature. He prescribed me 10 days of steroids to help with the inflammation. I was thinking that I had rosacea because this has never happened to me before. The red nose flushing from vasomotor rhinitis makes sense but what is with the cold nose the other times? Also, my nose is not red when it is cold. In fact, it looks pale like the rest of my face. I also want to add that I have demographic urticaria (when I scratch my skin bright red lines appear). I am so confused here - can anyone help me? My nose is so fickle and is either very warm or very cold for the most part. Thank you so much in advance! -Ficklenose |

I want to add that my nose is always either very warm or very cold. When it is warm, it is red. When it's cold, it looks normal. I also feel stuffed up which my doctor said is probably allergies. I am just so confused and upset. Could anxiety cause this?
Anyone?? Thanks! |

Hello ficklenose. I'm afraid I don't have very much advice to offer, but I do want to welcome you to the forum.
Honestly, your symptoms do not sound like Raynaud's but, then again, symptoms can vary from person to person. Whether or not you have Raynaud's, since you are having trouble warming hands, feet, and nose, you might want to look through the forum for hints and tips. In particular, look at the Coping Strategies and Hot Products categories to find out what works (or doesn't) for other members. ------------------------- Judith Secondary Raynaud's with underlying systemic sclerosis |

Hi - I just joined the board for a similar issue, but not the same. My nose has become increasingly red. It too get icy cold but never hot. Over the past few years my top lip and the upper palate of my mouth are also getting cold. Now it almost produces a burning sensation (nose and lips) when it is very cold. It gets worse with cold temps but can be at any time. It almost seems like an allergic reation but I can't figure out how the coldness factors in.

Hi Peony,
I would most definitely see a specialist for this issue. It is rare, but through research I have read that Raynaud's can affect your nose and also your tounge and lips. I haven't read anything about the affects on the upper palate however. Since this happens so rarely many professionals may not be aware of the affects that Raynaud's can have. I would definitely see another doctor and address this issue expecially if it is bothersome to you. I get a cold nose very cold when temps change and it is painful my cheeks get cold too, the nose gets so bad that I have to stay mostly inside in winter. My feet and hands get cold too, but I can do things for that. I am on Nifedipine 90 mg and that helps me. Nose get mostly red. Hope that helps you.
