I just found out I have primary raynauds and have been researching about it. I have read that vibrations to the hands over time can be a cause and I'm wondering if being on my road bike for long hours over the years has caused this. Although I will never know what the actual cause may be, can this type of thing make it worse? During a ride I experience some numbness and move my hands to difference positions and at the end usually have a little discomfort. My raynauds is fairly good compaired to what I've been reading and I'm not on any med's. Can anyone point me to some good informative websites?
I think I've learned more reading these forums then in any of my reading materials so far
Thanks and keep talking
sc

I'm new to the forum and have been recently diagnosed with what the doctor said was pretty severe Raynauds (I get frostbite symptoms in 65 deg).

I have recently started in the adult baseball league in my area. It is lots of fun, but my quads cease up on me in the first plays of the game, even after warmup. I then can't run the rest of the game which makes me a pretty poor baseball player!

I am trying my best to stay warm. I have the heavier weight smartwool long underwear, wool socks plus my baseball uniform socks, I wear tearaway sweats, a leather coat, leather gloves (the guys make fun of me for playing baseball with a glove on my throwing hand, but anything to keep warm) and a stocking cap over my baseball hat.

My feet get cold, which is a concern for the frostbite, but I don't think I can fit any more foot warming aids in my cleats. I think more importantly not only performance-wise but to prevent injury, I need to keep my quads from cramping up. Any ideas? Also, after a game I used to always ice my injuries or sore muscles, but have now been told "no icing" what are the best ways to aid in muscle recovery without ice?

Thanks for your help!

When I first start out walking to warm up my hands are either fine or they are cold and slightly numb. Once I start running they will eventually open up and the blood rushes in and then they swell and turn red. Sometimes they tingle when this happens and I have pressure and sometimes throbbing in my hands. I try to keep my arms up instead of swinging them when I am walking. That increases the discomfort. If its real bad I've been caught with my arms straight up in the air trying to relieve the pressure in my hands. I look ridiculous but I really don't care. I like to run and that's that.

I just ran my 9th marathon and for some reason had hematuria for the first time (blood in urine.) While some hematuria is normal for marathon runners, this was a more extreme case than normal.

Does anyone know if Raynauds would cause something this? The blood is most likely due to foot-strike issues and I was wondering if possibly Raynaud's had weakened my blood vessels (or something like that.) Thoughts?

I received some tips for running in cold weather today. The tips are aimed at normal runners, not frosties. However, I found some good advice in the tips and thought that I would pass them along.

http://www.active.com/running/...xt&Placement=1&Dy=Tue

I personally find that if my skin gets chilled to the point where I am shivering, that I will get an attack. One of the tips talks about how to dress to avoid excessive sweat. I plan to try that tip.

However, the temperatures in Iowa are going to be very chilly this week. I will be running indoors until the temperatures hit about 30 :-)

once i get my core temp up after about 20 minutes of hard riding i can usually get the blood back to my hands and feet, but if i do a long downhill my hands are frozen again by the time i reach the bottom. solutions, ideas, any other cyclists suffering? i'm wearing wool socks and bought some sugoi resistor booties. i'm wearing some med weight gloves that block the wind and are supposed to keep in the heat. it's not that cold here, San Francisco and north bay. I get symptoms inside my 70 degree living room. I wear wool gloves to walk my dog and it doesn't seem to make any difference. gloves don't seem to help me. sorry for bringing in so many different scenarios, i'm just frustrated that I can not get warm and i feel like my circulation doesn't work unless i'm in a hot bath or my heart rate is over 150. it's becoming increasingly difficult to do normal activities, just typing now is making my hands cold. agghhh

I am training for a 10k, and it is really cold here, so I am doing my running inside on the treadmill. A few minutes into my run, my hands start to get really cold and I feel like I should be wearing gloves. The rest of my body is normal temp and I perspire a lot.

There is a fan that blows on my face and I had to turn in off b/c of my hands.

Anyone else have this problem? Are there some type of running gloves out there that I can get to help with the cold hands?

(diagnosed with Raynaud's 3 years ago)

My personal worry: I've been exercising outside daily and have been wondering what to do when winter comes. I am about to find out :-)

Question 1: I plan to try all of my stay warm clothes and jog until I have my first attack. I hope that I can keep going until spring comes :-) Does anyone have good outdoor stay warm tips?

Question 2: Perhaps I should consider using an indoor pool but pools worry me greatly. If you exercise in a pool that is used for lap swimmers, the temperatures will be cool. What is the best pool temperature for a frostie? Is the right question to ask?

Question 3: Also, one of the regular posters has a husband who is on a ski patrol and is a frostie. He must have some awesome tips to share! How does a ski patrol member cope?

Hi all,

Trying to figure out just how common this is. Can you respond if you experience symptoms while exercising. Can you be specific? IE does an attack happen every time you exercise? Does it happen after you finish? Or does it happen while you are exercising? can you pin point a heart rate that it occurs with?

Thanks for any and all information.
