If you look under the category “Diagnosing Raynaud’s” and the thread How do I know I have raynaud’s?, there are two great articles that might be of some help to your friend. There is also a condition called erythromelalgia that might be present.
If your friend isn’t being seen by a rheumatologist already, it might be an area to explore since these are the doctors that specialize in Raynaud’s and other connective tissue disorders.
