Description

Touchscreen-friendly gloves serve an important role for Raynaud’s sufferers, since exposing our frosted paws outside to send or receive messages can result in painful attacks.  We wanted to find a good solution for fellow Frosties and found one in Glider Gloves.

My first reaction to the gloves was that they are a bit thick for a liner, not as thin and quite as stretchy as I expected.  But when I slipped them on, it was like surrounding my hand with long underwear – and not just any long undies, the kind with the legendary thermolactyl lining (remember the Damart brand?). On the coldest of days, most Raynaud’s sufferers will require an outer glove layer, but I wore them outside alone in just above freezing weather and my hands were fine for a short dog walk.

The best part is being able to use your mobile devices in open areas with a layer of warmth and protection.  That’s because unlike other touchscreen-friendly gloves, these are well-insulated with three separate layers of protection:  A special conductive copper yarn for the shell, a plaited middle layer for density, and a soft, brushed acrylic layer that sits next to the skin.  The triple layer design helps trap heat in the hands and circulate it.  But they are still thin enough to support good touch accuracy and dexterity.

Not only are the gloves warmer than standard touchscreen gloves, they offer full touch response.  That means the entire surface of the glove is conductive – not just the fingertips.  So you can use any part of the hand, finger or knuckle to text, browse or answer your phone.  And do it all without exposing your fingers to the cold – amen!

Another good feature is the anti-slip grip for keeping a firm hold on your mobile device or steering wheel. They aren’t easily visible, but lots of “grippers” are woven into the full surface of the glove, from the fingers and thumb down to the bottom of the palm.

Since first testing the gloves, they now come with a slightly longer extended cuff that conforms to your wrist to better help cover the gap with a coat or a sweater to keep out the cold.  That was our one wish on our initial tests of the product – so glad the team was listening!

But wait, there’s still more:  The inner tag of the right glove is made of micro fiber, and can be used to wipe and clean your touchscreens.  They’ve thought of everything!
