Venustas Heated Jackets & Heated Vests

Lightweight, stylish with multiple heating zones, Venustas heated apparel let’s you conquer the cold in cozy comfort!

Description

Heated jackets and vests offer those with Raynaud’s much needed core warmth when challenged by cold temperatures.  But some we’ve tested have drawbacks:  Heavy batteries that get in the way when you’re walking, going up inclines, or just sitting in the garment.  Or necks made to be so stiff, you can’t comfortably leave them partially open for greater comfort.  We were very happy to try the heated jacket and vest from Venustas, as they offered speedy, comfy warmth without some of the  issues we’ve experienced with other brands.

The first thing that got our attention is the quality packaging: Each garment, along with its charger, battery and instructions arrives wrapped in its own convenient portable pouch, which is a great way to keep everything together when stowed in the closet between seasons.

Next up is getting everything charged and ready for use:  All very easy and intuitive, which unfortunately isn’t always the case with heated gear.

Some of the features to note across both the heated vest and jacket:

  • Multiple Heating Zones – The collar, left and right pockets, mid-back, lower back (jacket), left and right shoulders (vest).
  • Lightweight FELLEX® insulation – a noted brand providing high-efficiency thermal insulation.
  • Silver Mylar Thermal Fabric Lining – for super heat retention, helps you stay warm even after the batteries are turned off.
  • Wind and Water Resistant – to keep you warm and dry under challenging conditions.
  • Battery Life – both offer excellent run times of up to 9.5 to 10 hours of warmth.

Specific comments on each heated garment from our initial test:

Venustas Men’s Classic Heated Vest:

  • Heats up pretty quickly.
  • Can feel the heat in the pockets, a great feature for us Frosties.
  • Neck heat in the collar is also a good feature, as warmth on the back of the neck can generate warmth across the whole body.
  • Good warmth across the core – a bit subtle, but comfy cozy.
  • Collar easily folds open if don’t want it closed – not too stiff.
  • Fabric has a nice silky “pillowy” feel.
  • Drawcord-adjustable hem helps seal in warmth.

Venustas Women’s Waterproof Heated Lightweight Jacket:

  • Heats up incredibly fast – then almost gets too hot very quickly!
  • A cozy, heated cocoon-like experience, not quite as subtle as the vest, you’re more conscious of the heat.
  • Like the vest, the collar stays open easily, and neck heat in the collar feature is a plus.
  • Has a  detachable, adjustable hood with wide brim shields enhancing your visibility in tough weather.
  • Adjustable-hem drawstrings and Velcro® cuffs help keep the cold out for a snug fit.
  • Seven functional pockets for storing gear, keys, extra batteries, extra hand warmers and more!

A few notes on our experience:

  • The battery position on the vest was a bit in the way of using one of the pockets.  It can be budged aside, but you may have to do it occasionally, as it doesn’t always stay in place.
  • Heat on the neck is best felt if you really press against the back of the collar because the zone is only located on the back of the neck.  Works great if you push down with your hands in the pockets.  However, even if you’re not conscious of the heat, it’s adding to your overall body warmth.
  • The jacket’s heated pocket zone is really located more around the abdomen area, so pending your height and shape, you may not feel heat delivered inside the pockets, it’s more likely lower on the front of the body.

Overall, both products provide comfortable warmth with several added-value features that can benefit Raynaud’s sufferers. The jacket may be my new “go to” for cross-country skiing!  The vest can be used alone as an outer layer outer layer during slightly chilly transition season weather or as indoor warming artillery in chilly offices.  Plus the silky fabric is thin enough to fit under coats for the coldest of days, and you’ll really feel the warmth with an outer layer to further surround and insulate the heat even closer around the body!

Those of us with Raynaud’s can certainly agree that’s a worthy goal!
