Unfortunately, most research has focused on treatment, as opposed to cause and cure. One of the most promising research studies to date is written up in our Spring 2002 newsletter about Dr. Nicholas Flavahan’s work at Ohio State involving Alpha 2 receptors. You can access the article on our website: Ohio State Research News: New Therapy Breakthrough
Researchers at Queen Mary’s University and the Berlin Institute of Health published a study in November 2023 that identified two genes that predisposed participants to the primary form of Raynaud’s phenomenon: One was the alpha-2 receptor, which builds on the work of Dr. Flavahan and a related later study by Dr. Maqsood Chotani at the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. You can read more about this research study and its findings on our website: Researchers Discover Genes Linked to Raynaud’s.
Our hope is that this more recent study on genes linked to Raynaud’s will lead to more effective treatments.
