The Raynaud’s Association proudly welcomes Maureen D. Mayes, M.D., M.P.H., the world-renowned rheumatologist and medical researcher, to our Medical Advisory Board.   Dr. Mayes is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunogenetics at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School, where she directs the Scleroderma Clinic and Research Program. She is currently the Principal Investigator of the NIH/NIAMS funded ‘Genome-Wide Association Study in Scleroderma’ and is author of more than 140 publications relating to Raynaud’s and scleroderma, its complications and its treatment. Some 95% of systemic scleroderma sufferers also are afflicted with Raynaud’s (although most Raynaud’s sufferers do not have scleroderma).

Dr. Mayes joins a highly distinguished Raynaud’s Association Medical Advisory Board, consisting of some of the world’s leading physicians, clinicians and researchers in the field of rheumatology. They include Daniel E. Furst, M.D., UCLA Med School-Rheumatology Division; Thomas Lehman, M.D., Cornell University, Hospital for Special Surgery; and Hal J. Mitnick, M.D., NYU Medical Center.  We also are grateful for the dedication of Fredrick Wigley, M.D., Johns Hopkins Hospital Scleroderma Center, who stepped down from the board after serving us since its inception.

The MAB provides a valuable resource to the Association in providing our members with trustworthy information, while helping us secure increased credibility among a broader audience in the population as well as the medical community.
