Newest Fundraising Craze: The Ice Bucket Challenge

Ice Bucket ChallengeFor Frosties, it sounds like cruel punishment:  Take a bucket of ice water, dump it over your head, record it and post the video on social media.  All for raising awareness and funds for charities.  Those who participate, then challenge others who either have to take the icy plunge, or donate a sizeable amount to the cause.   And the viral chain continues as more and more money is raised.

It’s now the new craze in Boston and is spreading to other areas of the country.  Causes include everything from ALS and cancer, to hospices and kid’s camps.  Here’s the full article published on Yahoo News.  We also found photos and a video of Matt Lauer taking the plunge on the Today Show – calling out Brian Williams, Martha Stewart and Howard Stern to do the same.  And since publishing this post, the New York Times reported that a total of $41 million has been raised for the cause through Challenge efforts.  Since this article was published, the total has climbed to $60 million by August 23rd.
