October is Raynaud’s Awareness Month!

October is officially Raynaud’s Awareness Month, our first in the U.S.!  We chose October because it’s the start of the colder weather and a good time to alert sufferers to arm themselves for the upcoming season.

It’s also a good time to reach out to the millions of fellow Frosties who have no idea their pain and discomfort has a medical explanation.  While Raynaud’s is a widespread condition – 15 to 30 million sufferers – only one in five are aware they have Raynaud’s and seek treatment*, so we have our work cut out for us!

But to have a real impact, we need your help.  Here are some actions you can take to help us spread the word:

  • Text a “share or donate” challenge:  Ask friends and family to Text a photo of our mascot Shivers to five people, or they can donate by texting SHIVERS to 88588 (our short code) and make a donation directly to the Raynaud’s Association with any major credit card, all totally secure.  (Here’s an alternate mobile-friendly donation link:  http://d.txt2give.us/9WP0XJ)

  • Share links of our educational content: We have the following materials available for you to tweet (use #raynaudsaware), share on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, in emails with friends, anywhere you choose!
3 minute educational video, shorter public service announcements, an informative infographic, and our 35-page Guide: The Cold Facts on Raynaud’s.

  • Send e-greeting cards with “warm wishes”:  We selected one that you can use from American Greetings.  It’s a talking polar bear and you can customize the words.  Here’s a sample of what you might write on the card:

“While my friends don’t mind the cold, I suffer from a medical condition causing an extreme sensitivity to cold and stress. It’s Raynaud’s Awareness Month. Please help us spread the word by supporting the Raynaud’s Association at raynauds.org/donate-now.”

Note: The cards won’t accept web links, so you can only use the last part of our donate page in the card, but if someone adds the “www.” it will work.

You’ll need an account with American Greetings to send the card, but they do offer a trial subscription, so it won’t require payment.  Click the bear below to see and hear the card.
